ANA Synchers Take 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze in Long Island, NY
The last time the ANA Synchers
traveled to Long Island to compete it was through a snow and ice storm. Well
the weather was better
a little better this time, but the competition was still fierce at the East
Zone Championship held in Bohemia, NY, June 2-3. Facing the
best swimmers in the entire eastern zone or one quarter of the United States,
the ANA Synchers once again did not disappoint, bringing
home 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Truly an outstanding performance
at an extremely competitive event!
The highlight of the meet
was a new ANA team record, set by the 13-15 Age Group swimmers, who took home
a gold medal for their
"Swing" themed team routine. Team members were Alyson Arsenault of
Methuen, Marian Crockett and Candace Ju of Andover, and
Laina Gray, Sarah Higgins, Alice Rodgers, Alison Ziel and Caitlyn MacGregor
of North Andover.
ANA took a second gold
medal in the age 10 and under intermediate category. Performing to music from
Thumbelina were swimmers
Jessica Alvarado and Monica Alvarado of Methuen, Juliet Adams, Tatiana Bouchard,
Nicole Carzo and Sachiko Hagiya of Andover, and
Kate Quinn of North Andover.
Winning bronze medals in
age 11-12 intermediate competition, and performing to a medley of jungle theme
music were swimmers
Gillian Brassil, Gloria McNamara and Elizabeth Rao, all of Andover, Lauren Arsenault
and Julie Desjardins of Methuen, Kim Cushing and
Rebecca Hope of North Andover, and Kim Beaton of Salem, NH.
The ANA Synchers took home
several top honors in other events as well. Jessica Mancini (Andover) and Claire
Rudder (Sudbury) took home
a silver for a beautiful duet performance and Mancini wowed judges yet again
taking another silver for her solo. ANA rounded out the day
with a bronze going to Caitlyn Macgregor, Alison Ziel and Candace Ju for their
trio performance in the 13-15 age group category.
Another highlight of the
event was the naming of Jessica Mancini of Andover and Claire Rudder of Sudbury
to the East Zone 13-15 age group
all star team -- truly an outstanding accomplishment for these young swimmers
and for the ANA Synchers team!
The "Swing" team,
along with Mancini and Rudder and sixteen other teammates, will be traveling
to Ohio from June 23-30 to compete in
the U.S. Age Group National Championships. This meet will host over 1,000 of
the country's top synchronized swimmers under the age of 19.
